A globally standardized and predictable Internet addressing system for airports is a step closer, due to collaboration between the Airports Council International (ACI) and SITA. Airport operators worldwide are invited to register and use their 3 letter location identifier followed by .aero to help people quickly search the Internet for airport information.

GAMA announces launch of "www.GAMA.aero"

WASHINGTON, DC, The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) announced today the launch of its new website utilizing the .AERO domain. The new site, www.GAMA.aero, is one of the first in the world to use the Internet domain name dedicated to a specific industry and is exclusively reserved for aviation and aerospace-related entities and individuals.

Geneva International Airport trials new web access tool during ITU Telecom

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND – 9th October 2003 – Travellers using Geneva International Airport are the first to be offered the use of a new prototype web-service to check their flight status. The pilot programme is timed to take place throughout the prestigious ITU Telecom World 2003, 12th-18th October.

Reservation of airport codes extended until February 2004

Following the recommendation of the Dot Aero Council on October 16, 2003, SITA has decided that the current reservation of IATA location codes for airports will remain unchanged until February 2004.
